Tumbling Factoid #2

It is important to learn tumbling skills in order starting with basic skills like front roll, back roll and cartwheel.  These three skills are your building blocks for learning intermediate and advanced skills.  When you skip the basics and go straight to the harder skills, your brain does not learn a pathway from beginning to end.  More advanced skills may be sloppy and inconsistent.  Just like in the movie “The Karate Kid”, Mr. Miagi taught his student to do the boring basics over and over until he perfected them. Those basic movements helped his student to develop strong advanced skills, and beat his opponent. Even though basics are dull it is important to learn them and repeat them.  A solid pathway of learning is important to every sport, and gymnastics tumbling is no exception.
